Reviews and user submissions

When you submit a car hire review, we collect the content of your review, your chosen display name or pseudonym, and your email address (for verification purposes only). We do not publish your email address publicly.

Newsletter and notifications

If you sign up to receive notifications about new reviews at specific locations, we collect your email address and the location(s) you choose to follow. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any notification email, or by emailing [email protected].

Account registration

If you create an account with ReviewCarHire, we collect your email address and any additional information you voluntarily provide in your profile (such as a display name). Authentication is handled by Supabase; your credentials are subject to Supabase's privacy policy.

Cookies and usage data

We collect basic technical information when you visit the site, including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, referring URL, and timestamp. This data is collected via cookies and server logs and is used solely for site analytics and security purposes. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking pixels.

Affiliate widget interactions

Car hire price comparison widgets on our location pages are provided by Vipcars/SupplyCars. Interacting with those widgets — clicking through to compare prices or make a booking — may result in data being collected by Vipcars/SupplyCars in accordance with their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their privacy practices directly.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Publishing reviews on the site and associated subdomains
  • Verifying reviewer identity (via email) to reduce fake or fraudulent reviews
  • Sending location notifications if you have opted in to receive them

3. Third-Party Services

Supabase (authentication and database)

ReviewCarHire uses Supabase for user authentication and to store reviews, user accounts, and site data. Supabase processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement. Their privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics collects anonymous, aggregated data such as page views, session duration, and traffic sources. This data cannot be used to identify individual users. You can opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Vipcars/SupplyCars (affiliate widgets)

Price comparison widgets on location pages are provided by Vipcars/SupplyCars, an affiliate partner. When you interact with these widgets, you are subject to Vipcars/SupplyCars' own privacy policy and terms of service. We are not responsible for the data practices of third-party websites or services linked to from our site.

Email delivery

We use standard SMTP services to deliver notification emails. Your email address is used only to send the notifications you have requested.

ReviewCarHire uses cookies to operate essential site functionality, analyse usage, and (with your consent) deliver relevant content. Below is a breakdown of the cookie categories we use.

Essential cookies

  • Service providers: We share data with Supabase and Google Analytics under appropriate data processing agreements. These providers are contractually restricted from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to us.
  • Legal obligations: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental regulation, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of ReviewCarHire, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on the site prior to any such transfer.
  • With your consent: In all other cases, we will obtain your explicit consent before sharing your personal information with any third party.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law. Specifically:

  • Review data: Reviews published on the site are retained indefinitely unless you request deletion. Even after deletion requests, residual copies may remain in cached backups for a reasonable period.
  • Email addresses: Retained for as long as you have an active subscription to location notifications. Upon unsubscribing, your email is deleted within 30 days.
  • Analytics data: Anonymous, aggregated analytics data is retained for up to 26 months in Google Analytics.
  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account or request deletion. Deletion is processed within 30 days.

7. Your Rights
