Unexpected extra fees ruined an otherwise average rental

I rented from Europcar at Vienna airport as a solo traveler last month. The pickup process started fine, though the queue was quite long—waited about 30 minutes even though I arrived on time. The staff member was polite but definitely pushed the extra insurance coverage hard, which I declined. I received a Skoda Octavia, which was clean and ran well. However, the drop-off experience left a bad taste. A week later, I noticed unexpected admin charges on my credit card that weren't in the original quote. It felt like a hidden fee just for the sake of it. Disappointing end to the trip.

Vienna Budget is good value if you double-check the fuel policy

Rates were sharp and the car decent, though the contract wording around prepaid fuel versus full-to-full needed clarifying at the desk before keys changed hands.

Vienna Sixt makes airport pickup feel almost frictionless

We were on the road in under ten minutes with a spotless Audi Q2, and aside from the predictable €18/day protection push, the whole interaction felt premium and well drilled.

Vienna Europcar loses points for the post-return silence

Pickup itself was fine and the Opel Astra was clean, but a minor damage query after drop-off took four days and multiple emails to close despite our timestamped photos.

Smooth start to our Austrian family road trip

We landed at Vienna airport for our family holiday and headed straight to the Hertz counter. It was surprisingly easy to find in the arrivals hall, and we were lucky enough to be served by a very professional agent named Thomas. There was absolutely no queue when we arrived around 10 AM, which was a relief after a long flight with the kids. Unlike some rental experiences I’ve had, there was no aggressive upselling for extra insurance, which I really appreciated. The car we booked—a Skoda Octavia wagon—was ready and waiting exactly as described. It was clean, spacious enough for our luggage, and perfect for the Autobahn. The whole pickup process took less than fifteen minutes. A hassle-free experience that set the tone for a great week in Austria.

Avoid Sixt Vienna Airport - Unfair damage charges

My partner and I had a terrible experience with Sixt at Vienna airport during our couple's trip. We arrived at 8 AM expecting a quick pickup, but the queue was incredibly long. Things only got worse when we returned the vehicle. Despite walking around the car with the agent and marking every scratch on the diagram before driving off, they later claimed we caused damage to the rear bumper that was definitely not there when we parked it. It felt like a complete scam to charge us extra fees. We disputed it immediately, but their customer service was dismissive and unhelpful. It has left a sour taste in our mouths, and we certainly won't be renting from Sixt in Austria again. Be very careful and take your own time-stamped photos if you have no other choice but to use them.
