Sofia Hertz — dependable airport workhorse with mixed returns
Pickups are usually calm and the car condition is acceptable, though return desk coordination can be sloppy during ski season and paperwork sometimes lags behind vehicle check-in.

Sofia Europcar — low drama, just don't ignore the fuel gauge
One of the less theatrical counters in the terminal, with clear damage marking, but fuel disputes do pop up because the refill expectation is more exact than some renters expect.

Best hire experience I've had in Eastern Europe
Sixt at Sofia were brilliant. New VW Polo, full tank, no damage issues. They even helped me with a local SIM card recommendation. Will 100% book with them again.
5–15 min queue
Mild upsell pressure
Car matched booking
No damage dispute
