Pickup took 35 minutes at 11am. Car had a scratch on the rear bumper not noted on the agreement — always photograph everything here. Fiat Panda was clean and adequate for city driving.

Locauto ran the most efficiently of any desk at Cagliari — 20 minutes from queue to keys. Renault Clio was practically new. The only black mark: a €50 dispute on return for a scratch they couldn't prove existed before I took the car.

Centauro wins on process — prepaid online, 15-minute counter time, no upsell pressure. But the Peugeot 208 had 38,000km and the air con took 10 minutes to cool down. Acceptable for the price if you skip the extra insurance.

Hertz charges around €30/day more than local operators but the experience reflects it. Toyota Yaris with 8,000km, full tank given and returned on full-to-full. Staff spoke good English and the damage check was thorough but fair.

Two queues ahead of me at 2pm, waited 40 minutes to be served. The Opel Corsa was fine — clean, working, no surprises. Deposit of €1,200 was released within 5 business days. Would skip the desk wait with a prior booking.

Budget's desk at Cagliari had a 25-minute queue mid-morning. The Fiat 500L was adequate but the agent pushed the damage waiver hard — €18/day on top of an already-cheap base rate. Declined and had no issues. Full tank policy, returned clean.
