The desk agent spent 20 minutes upselling loss damage and personal accident insurance before we could get to the car. But the Audi Q3 was immaculate and the whole thing took 35 minutes in August.

August queue at the Europcar counter backed up to 25 minutes. Kia Sportage was fine — clean, decent AC, 45,000 km. Return was painless with a full tank as required.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, 8,000 km on the clock — genuinely the newest rental car I've had anywhere. Deposit of €1,200 held on the card for 7 days after return though.

The Fiat Panda cost €38/day in October which was excellent. But the prepaid fuel policy caught us — we returned it with a quarter tank and were charged €68 for the privilege.

Toyota Yaris, 62,000 km, worked fine for our five days. Counter agent was blunt and the shuttle from the terminal took 15 minutes. Fine for budget travel, not for peace of mind.
