Decent car for the price but stressful pickup process
I rented from Budget at Malaga airport for a quick business trip last week. The location is convenient, just a short walk from the terminal, but the service was a bit of a mixed bag. I arrived at the counter around 10 AM on a Tuesday and the queue wasn't too bad, which was a relief.
The car itself, a silver Seat Leon, was perfectly clean and drove well for my meetings along the coast. However, the staff member I dealt with was quite pushy. Despite having a prepaid reservation, he insisted on extra insurance for 'tire and glass protection' three separate times, which felt unnecessary and awkward. It made the pickup take much longer than it should have. If you go with them, just be ready to stand your ground on the coverage you already paid for. It did the job, but the hard upsell left a sour impression.
Hassle-free start to our honeymoon on the Costa del Sol
We chose OK Mobility at Malaga Airport for our honeymoon road trip and overall, it was a smooth experience. We had a bit of a wait at the desk around midday, but the staff were friendly enough. The inevitable insurance upsell happened, but to their credit, they accepted our 'no' politely without making us feel uncomfortable, which I appreciated. We were given a nearly new Toyota Yaris that was clean and ran perfectly for our drive along the coast. The deposit hold was clearly explained and released promptly after we returned the vehicle. It wasn't the fastest pickup process ever, but for the price and peace of mind, I’d definitely use them again.
Malaga Goldcar: classic Costa del Sol stress test
The queue stretched past the barrier, staff pushed €15/day wheel cover repeatedly, and a tiny fuel discrepancy at return sparked a debate not helped by a very full afternoon lot.
Malaga Europcar makes beach pickups feel surprisingly civilised
The handover was clear, the Nissan Juke had just 9,000km on it, and the desk gave sensible warnings about toll roads and after-hours returns without trying to terrify anyone into extras.
Malaga Hertz is decent until the category swap lands
We booked a compact automatic and received a larger manual crossover instead; staff apologised and adjusted the rate, but it still meant relearning parking plans for old-town garages.
Malaga Airport Centauro — Costa del Sol budget
The queue was long but the rate was unbeatable. Documented every scratch and return was smooth. Patience pays.
Malaga Airport OK Mobility — Costa del Sol budget
Newer brand with competitive rates. The Seat was clean and fuel policy was fair. Growing network in Spain.
Stress-free pickup at Malaga for our Costa del Sol trip
I was a bit worried after reading some horror stories about car rentals in Spain, but my experience with Europcar at Malaga airport was honestly brilliant. We arrived around 9 PM on a Friday for a weekend break, and I expected a long queue, but we were seen within ten minutes. The staff member at the desk—pretty sure his name was Miguel—was cheerful and efficient. He did ask about additional insurance, but took my polite 'no' on the first attempt without pushing further, which I really appreciated. We were given a nearly new Seat Ibiza, which was spotless inside and out. The return process on Sunday was just as easy; simply parked the car, handed the keys back, and the deposit was back in my account by Tuesday. No hidden fees, no fuss. Highly recommended.
