Aldergrove's Hertz desk is modest compared to Dublin Terminal 2 but the VW Tiguan was well prepared and the team were clear about the cross-border rules for bringing a rental car into the Republic of Ireland. North-south insurance differences need checking before you cross the border. Deposit held was £500 — standard for the region. The Antrim Coast road from here is worth every kilometre.
