Landed at 6am, on the road by 6:30. Staff were friendly, the Toyota Camry was nearly new, and they even recommended a breakfast spot nearby. Smoothest airport pickup in years.

I booked a compact automatic and was offered a Holden Astra station wagon at no extra charge — useful for a family heading to Hobbiton. The full-to-full fuel policy was clearly explained and the Avis counter at Auckland's international terminal took under 15 minutes including the ferry transfer paperwork. Return was equally smooth, deposit back within 2 hours.
